Essential Things To Bring On A Mediterranean Cruise

A cruise in the Mediterranean is unsurpassed by cruises anywhere else in the world. The Mediterranean Sea is a gorgeous body of water surrounded by several interesting countries. Unlike cruises in other beautiful seas, such as the Caribbean, in the Mediterranean you are able to tour regions of Europe and Africa all in one vacation.

To make your cruise as comfortable and hassle-free as it can be there are a few essential items you need to take with you. Most of them are obvious, but as a handy reminder we've listed eleven essential items you must take with you on a cruise in the Mediterranean:

1. Sun tan lotion. Obviously if you are going to be spending time on deck while cruising you will need copious amounts of suntan lotion. Don't forget to slather some on when going ashore too as many of the ports are in sunny, dry climates.

2. Diarrhea tablets. In many of the countries you will be visiting the food is rich and different than what your body may be used to. Onboard you may also eat many dishes that are richer and more exotic than what you consume at home. Thus, diarrhea tablets are a necessity (unless you want to spend your cruise in the bathroom!).

3. Passport. The number of people who forget their passport is astounding. Before you leave, check and double check all of your vital documents. Besides passport, make sure you have your cruise confirmation, medical and insurance documents and any other important paperwork.

4. Credit Card. You will most likely be using your credit card several times while traveling. Make sure you call your credit card issuer before you leave. Otherwise, they may become concerned when you suddenly start using your card outside the country and place a hold on it.

5. Cell phone. It is usually far less expensive to use your cell phone instead of the onboard telephones. However, call your company and see what kind of roaming charges will apply to calls you make while abroad so that you're not stuck with a huge bill when you get home.

6. Contact numbers. You will want to have a list containing contact numbers for each credit/debit card you take on the trip in the event that the cards are stolen. If your cards are stolen, call and report them stolen immediately.

7. Glasses/sunglasses. Don't forget your prescription and protective eye wear. This should include any contact lenses (and contact lens cleaner) glasses and sunglasses you need. You don't want to be stuck squinting and shielding your eyes when you're trying to relax and enjoy a vacation.

8. Maps. It's a good idea to get maps of where you're going ahead of time. You'll be able to save money, and plan your trip in advance, if you purchase or download maps before you travel. Plus, you may not be able to find maps written in English if you buy them while travelling.

9. Cell phone charger and country adapter. You don't want to be stuck on vacation with a cell phone with a dead battery or a charger that won't work where you're traveling.

10. Email addresses and home addresses of friends and family. If you remember to bring addresses you'll be able to send quick notes home and mail postcards as you travel.

11. Travel first-aid kit. You want to be prepared in case of accident. Even if all you need is a band-aid to cover your blisters you'll be glad you have the first-aid kit with you. It's always better to be prepared.

The Mediterranean is a magical place. If you are prepared you'll be able to enjoy every minute of your time there.
